Interior designer Valerie Brandt’s infectious laugh is matched only by her flair for originality.
Valerie: In this time of 24/7 family togetherness, it’s important to find a cozy space for a bit of “me time” to reflect, meditate or just dig into that great read you’ve been saving. For peace of mind, I try to create a place of my own in which I can take a bit of solitary happiness (even if only temporarily). And if a four-legged friend refuses to accept the boundaries and demands a snuggle, well just fine.
Pick a corner of your bedroom with good lighting.
Choose a room with a view, perhaps a window seating nook, to enjoy the outside from cool inside.
Add happy splashes of color, like fresh flowers and colorful candles to set the mood.
Place a tray atop an ottoman for tea cups (and, okay, for snacks for Netflix binge watching).
Allow a snuggly pet to bring that healing unconditional love; here, Zula, my daughter’s dog.
